There are now just 8 teams in Region D, Class 5, with the 2023/24-2026/37 VHSL realignment and reclassification. Harrisonburg reverted to Class 3 in fall 2024 and has been dropped. (Updated Feb 21 2025)

The Region is built around the six-team Potomac District, the Class 5 Loudoun County teams. It adds the two Class 5 Commonwealth District teams, Massaponax and Riverbend.t.

Lightridge moved over from the Class 4 Dulles District to become a Class 5 Potomac District school.
